Proposal to host the Hobie continentals Word Doc with full details
Continentals Notice of Race and Registration Form Word Doc
Year 2000 is here and for LISCA it promises to be our most exciting year yet. Our bid to host the Year 2000 Hobie-17 and Hobie-18 Continentals has been accepted by the North American Hobie Class Association!
The Continentals will bring all the top sailors from South and Central America, Canada, the Caribbean and, of course, the United States to compete in our own back yard. Hosting a Continentals is like hosting the Summer Olympics. It is a great honor for LISCA, for Long Island and for all who will sail in this big event. We have been fortunate in finding a regatta site, only five minutes from Heckscher, that meets the hosting requirements of the NAHCA. Hot and cold showers, restrooms, dining hall, camping and dormitories - all together at one location on the eastern campus of Saint John's University in Oakdale. Saint John's, as you may know, recently purchased La Salle Military Academy. At Saint John's we will have a 300-foot-long beach from which to launch our boats AND the racing will be on the same courses we sail during the year.
The Continentals will be run immediately following our annual Mid-Summer Classic Open regatta. The Mid-Summer Classic will be held July 15 and 16 and the Continentals from July 17 through July 21. Prior to these events, we will have a dry run at the university to "test out" the facility and sail off their beach. You are invited, with or without a boat, to join us at this time. We will keep you informed as to the exact date. Also, on Saturday March 18, we have been invited to take a tour of the university at 10 a.m. We hope you can make it - and the free brunch.
So keep in mind the regatta dates July 15 to 21. The Mid-Summer Classic July 15/16 and the Continentals July 17/21. But first mark your calendar and join us on the 18th of this month for the tour.
Great sailing, and thanks for your support.
