The presentation of written information about the race has changed from a question and answer format to one which more closely follows the recommendations of the USSA as presented in The Racing Rules of Sailing, 1997 - 2000, pages 92 to 100. If you have any additional questions you can e mail LICSA.
1.2 Each boat must be in compliance with all applicable United States Coast Guard rules and regulations for a boat of its size and length. Failure to comply with all USCG regulations will result in disqualification. The race committee may inspection any or all boats at any time.
1.3 Modifications to any team's boat during the race are not allowed unless damage warrants repair or replacement. If boat replacement is necessary, the replacement boat must be the same type and handicap number as the original and approved by the race committee.
1.4 Solo
sailing a boat designed to be sailed by two or more persons is prohibited.
There are three exceptions to this rule, the Nacra 5.5 Sl which, without
its jib, is rated as a Class
Legal Uni , the Dart 18 and the Taipan 4.9 which are both designed
to be sailed as either a sloop or a uni.
1.5
Team members must meet class
minimum weight requirements at all times. You may be weighed
before or after the race. If you are not in compliance with the class weight
requirements at any time you will be disqualified. If you are close to
the minimum weight and think that you may lose weight during the race,
add corrector weights to your boat. You will be weighed in your bathing
suit or T shirt and shorts. Everything else must be removed. No exceptions.
1.6 Any boat not in compliance with its class rules will be subject to the modification factors and penalties as prescribed by USSA.
1.7 The USSA Sailing right-of-way rules are in effect for this race. Where this document differs from the USSA rules this document will govern.
1.8 U.S. Sailing rule 26, which disallows boats to advertise sponsors, is waived.
1.9 The 720 rule is in effect for violation of the rules which do not involve damage.
1.10 All participants will pro-actively and in a timely manner avoid collisions. Any boat that causes major damage to any other boat must retire from the race.
1.11 In the event that a team cannot complete a leg of the race for any reason, the team must notify the race committee (VHF Channel will be posted at the registration desk).
1.12 All members of a team must be in attendance at the pre race meeting.
1.13 Teams found in violation of any of the above rules will be disqualified.
1.14 All race committee decisions will be considered final.
2.4 Teams must have a team name designated on their application form. The team name shall be available for use in all official GSB 60/60/120 press releases, media coverage for, and advertising of the GSB 60/60/120.
2.5 Each team must designate one member as team captain who shall be the official spokesman for the team on all matters. The team captain must be a member of the sailing crew.
2.6 Each team is responsible:
Any multihull 16 feet to 23 feet in length with a current USSA handicap rating. All boats in all divisions must be prepared and equipped to deal with any and all emergencies without assistance from any Division 12/LICSA volunteers. LOA is measurement from the top of the bow, along the top of the hull, to the top of the transom. LOA does not include appendages.
2.8 Each boat participating in the GSB 60/60/100 will be supplied by the committee at registration with a two foot long streamer. The streamer must be attach to the end of the batten located closest in line to the numbers on the mainsail. Streamers will be numbered in sequence from 1 to 100. You will be assigned a number in the order in which you sign the registration sheet. Immediately after finishing you must remove the streamer from your sail and place it in the box labeled STREAMERS located at the registration table. This will help the committee keep track of which teams remain on the course and which teams have finished. In addition, each boat must have numbers on the main sail or hull for identification.
2.9 All teams must carry all required United States Coast Guard approved safety equipment appropriate for a vessel of the size and type they are sailing. Carrying all required USCG approved equipment is the sole responsibility of each team. Items required by the USCG must be on board and easily accessible during an emergency during the entire race. Any team found in violation of Coast Guard regulations will be disqualified.
2.10
The decision to carry any additional equipment beyond what is required
by the United States Coast Guard is at the sole discretion of the team.
What follows is a list of items which
are often carried on board beach catamarans during long distance races.
Some items listed below may already be required by the USCG depending
on the length of your boat.
2.11 Each member of each team must sign a waiver of liability releasing the organizers, sponsors, race committee, designated and volunteer staff, management and/or owners of launching and retrieval facilities and property, and all other participants from liability for any injury to themselves or others and any damage to their property or the property of others during this event. Signatures will signify that each team member understands that they are participating in this event at their own risk, and that nothing in this document, implied, inferred, or otherwise absolves the team and/or its members from responsibility for their own safety during this event. The signing of the waiver will also serve as an oath that each team member has read, fully understood, and agrees to comply with the rules in this document and any additional rulings made by the Race Committee. The signing of the waiver will serve as an acknowledgment on the part of all members of the team that they race at their own risk.
4. Changes in Sailing Instructions
Any change to the sailing instructions
will be posted one hour before the start on the day the change will take
effect, except that any change to the schedule of races will be posted
by 09:30 hours on the day of the race.
5. Signals Made Ashore
5.1 Signals made ashore will be displayed at or near the registration table.
5.2
Displaying Flag AP at the registration table with two long blasts of a
horn means 'The race is

7. Divisions: All
divisions are subject to change depending upon the kinds and numbers of
boats in attendance. Five or more of the same model boats ( five Nacra
6.0s, five Hobie 20s, five Tornadoes, five Hobie 17s, etc.) will be scored
in their own class. This will be in addition to the divisions listed below.
The tentative divisions are as follows:
| Division I | Boats 16 feet or greater in length designed to be sailed by one person. The only exceptions to this rule are the Nacra 5.5 SL or the Taipan 4.9 sailed without their jibs. |
| Division II | Boats 16' to 23' LOA, with main and jib not carrying head sails. DPN equal to or greater than .700 (tentative) |
| Division III | Boats 16' to 23' LOA, with main and jib not carrying head sails. DPN equal to or less than .699 (tentative) |
| Division IV | Boats 16' to 23' LOA, with main and jib and carrying head sails. |
8. The
Racing Area:
9.2 The western most mark of the course will most likely be the small red 6 off of Bergen Point. Look for and head toward the huge ugly brown building when you pass under the bridge.
9.3 The eastern most mark of the course will most likely be the medium red 6 at the very east end of the bay. Follow the Bellport Bay Reach. Do not sail toward the small bridge to the southeast.
10.1 The medium "Red N 6" buoy, about four tenths (0.4) of a mile before the Robert Moses Causeway Bridge and about 5.6 miles west of Heckscher. Note well: There is a medium "Red 6" just a bit to the southwest of Heckscher. This is not the buoy you are looking for since it is much too close to the starting area.
Possible government marks to the west of Heckscher and beyond the bridge: (See Chart.)
10.2 The small "Red 2" buoy off of Babylon Cove, Babylon, the small "Red 4", the small "Red 6" and the small "Red 8". All of these buoys are more toward the north side of the bay. The Red 6 is just before Bergen Point and the water treatment plant, a huge brownish building. The Red 8 is just beyond Bergen Point.
10.3 Note well: The government buoys on the west side of the Robert Moses Causeway Bridge are much smaller in size than those on the east side of the bridge. Stay on the north side of the bay and you will find them; go south and you will miss them and most likely run aground.
Possible government marks to the east of Heckscher: (Go to Chart)
10.5 Anyone of the series of medium sized government buoys including numbers 28, 30, 32, 34, 36, 38, 2, 4 and 6.
10.6 The "Red 38" buoy is about a mile before Howell's Point in Bellport and about 11 miles east of Heckscher. The medium "Red N 6" buoy is at the eastern most end of the bay, about 15 miles east of Heckscher. You go any farther east and you will be on the beach. The "Red 6" is in a straight line with the R2 & R4 along what is called the Bellport Bay Reach. The "Red 6" has been moved farther east than is indicated on the chart.
10.7 The distance from the small "R 6",
under the bridge, off of Bergen Point, near the water treatment plant in
the west to the medium "R 6" at the east end of the bay past Bellport is
about 25 miles.
11.2 Standard USSA sound and visual signals at 5 minute intervals will be used. The number of boats in attendance will determine the number of starts. It is possible that several divisions or all divisions may start at the same time.
11.3 Rule 30.1 is in effect. This is often referred to as the one minute rule.
11.4 All classes will use the same starting line. The start will take place off of Heckscher.
11.5 The starting line will be between the orange flag or shape on the beach and the large orange racing mark on the water off the beach.
11.6 Boats that are not starting MUST keep clear of the starting area.
11.7 Teams may stand in the water and hold
their boats on the proper side of the starting line no more than ten feet
off the beach up to their preparatory signal.
12.2 This race will not have Chase Boats.
12.3 This race will not have Rescue Boats.
13.2 Look for code flag "C" to be displayed on a staff on the beach near the eastern most large red sign as you pass through the gates. No code flag " C", no changes in the course.
13.4 Changes in the course do not change
the forced to finish time deadline.
14.3 It is the sole responsibility of each sailing team to find the finish line under any conditions. These conditions may include, but are not limited to, reduced visibility.
14.4 Upon crossing
the finishing line to finish, boats shall immediately clear the line.
16.2 Teams that cross through the gates on or before the 15:00:00 hours time limit may continue to race.
16.3
Teams that cross through the gates after the 15:00:00 hours time limit,
regardless of division, will be forced to finish and scored as one division
with all others who are forced to finish.
17.2 Protests shall be delivered to a representative
of the race committee no later than one half hour after the last boat in
the division in which the protest is lodged finishes.
18.2 Finishing places for the overall 120 miles will be determined by adding the corrected time for Saturday with the corrected time for Sunday.
18.3 Results may be available on the day of the race. However, if large numbers of boats participate it is possible that Sundays results may not be posted on the LICSA web site until Monday.
18.5 Wind corrections may or may not be used depending on the conditions.
20. Prizes: Participants will be recognized for each day that they race as follows:
20.2 Certificate of Recognition for teams who complete the 60 mile course within the time limit.
20.3 Certificate of Award to teams for:
20.6 GSB 120 Certificate
of Excellence for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place skippers and crews in each
division. (12 Certificates)
20.8 GSB 120 Fastest
Multihull Award for the fastest
combined elapsed time of any boat for
Saturday and Sunday. ( 1 Award
)
21.3 No chase or rescue boats will be in operation during this event.
22.2 Signatures will signify that each team member understands that they are participating in this event at their own risk, and that nothing in this document, implied, inferred, or otherwise absolves the team and/or its members from responsibility for their own safety during this event.
22.3 The signing of the waiver will also serve as an oath that each team member has read, fully understood, and agrees to comply with the rules in this document and any additional rulings made by the Race Committee.
22.4 The signing of the waiver will serve as an acknowledgment on the part of all members of the team that they race at their own risk.
22.5 If a team member is under 21 years of age, their legal guardian must sign the waiver of liability. This will indicate that the legal guardian gives the minor permission to participate in the GSB 60/60/120, has read the rules and the waiver of liability and understands the risks involved.
